The Van Buren County Head Start is making an urgent one-time requests to the federal government for two projects.
UCHRA Executive Director Mark Farley said these large-scale projects need to be done on the Head Start property. Farley said one item is renovations to the HVAC system, which could cost some $60,000.
“We also need to move some septic tanks from away from our playground area,” Farley said. “So I think that’s around some 20-something thousand. So, total in a few other little small projects, I think you’re looking at an additional 90-something thousand.”
Farley said the applications are being submitted because the projects are needed now. Farley said he wanted to take advantage of the opportunity for this additional funding.
“The thing that goes along with that is we’re asking them to not require us to put match money,” Farley said. “It’s an emergency, and we need it 100 percent funded and not put any of our match toward it.”
Farley said the two emergency requests are just for this year. Farley shared a report of other items the Van Buren Head Start takes care of annually.
“We renew our financial reports every meeting we have,” Farley said. “And down at the bottom, we have a lot of things we put in place. You have to sign off on it as we begin our school year, such as the application process, grievance complaint policies.”
Farley said those items are not changing, but UCHRA has to confirm that they want to keep the same policies for the new school year.
