Warren County Lady Pioneers girls soccer head coach Todd Willmore enters his third stint as head coach this season.
Willmore has remained around the Warren County community, having coached for the Lady Pioneers since 2000. Willmore has coached three different generations. Willmore said the familiarity of the players stands as one thing helping him before his return.
“I know most of their players cause most of them played for me up in middle school,” Willmore said. “It’s kind of like a homecoming in that respect and we’re just excited to kind of move forward and kind of improve from [how] they did last year.”
Willmore coached at Warren County Middle School before taking the high school position. One of Willmore’s former players coached at the high school before stepping down before this season. Willmore said he could not pass up the opportunity to coach the Lady Pioneers when offered the job.
“This program is super important to me,” Willmore said. “It’s almost like the Lord was saying hey, you’re supposed to be there so I came back.”
Willmore said his coaching tenure at Warren County High School began thanks to his daughters playing soccer.
“They were all active in travel soccer,” Willmore said. “One thing led to another when my oldest was in high school and the opportunity was handed to me for me to be high school coach.”
Willmore begins his 18th season coaching girls soccer Tuesday as the Pioneers travel to face Rhea County.
