Shelby Empowering Lady Cavaliers On And Off The Field

Cookeville Cavaliers girls soccer player Kenadi Shelby seeks to conquer some battles off the pitch next season.

Shelby said she prides herself on actively getting ahead in her work. Shelby also is part of the track and field team. Shelby said she does these other things to hold herself accountable and have her voice heard.

“I feel like I’ve become more vocal just becoming a senior I feel like I have like, I just am able to be more vocal,” Shelby said. “And I have a pretty high standard for myself on my conditioning so being able to relay that to my teammates and make them feel motivated and empowered, I think that’s good.”

Shelby plays center defensive midfielder for the Lady Cavaliers. Shelby will also take the field as one of three captains nominated by last season’s seniors. Shelby said she wants to see herself become more vocal on the pitch.

“I’m excited to become a leader as a captain this year,” Shelby said. “I just love my teammates so I’m glad to be a leader of this team.”

Shelby said she wants the Cookeville crowds to stand up and be loud this season.

“Even if we fall down just keep cheering for [Cookeville] and your peers,” Shelby said.

Cookeville finished with six wins, seven losses, and three ties last season. The Lady Cavaliers made it to the second round of district tournament play before falling to Stewart’s Creek. Shelby played most of the minutes at her midfield position.
