Cookeville Breaks Ground On New Cane Creek Splash Pad

Cookeville Officials broke ground on the new splash pad and playground at Cane Creek Park Friday.

The $2.6 million project will be located next to the Cane Creek Recreation Center. Cookeville Mayor Laurin Wheaton said the additions at Cane Creek are worth the investment.

“We had discussed at one point a water park,” Wheaton said. “Unfortunately, the cost for that is just something that we cannot financially support right now, but we can do a splash pad that I think is gonna be a really great addition to the community, to this area. It’s gonna be a really nice one. A lot bigger than the fountain area at Dogwood Park.”

Wheaton said the additions will not only give citizens more things to do but also improve the quality of life in Cookeville. Wheaton said though the city wanted to have the project completed this summer, she is still looking forward to having the project completed by next summer.

“You know, this is my last year being mayor, so I’ve got the council who is really excited to get a lot of these projects done,” Wheaton said. “And so I’m hopeful that this is something that can be completed before I step out and to have it next summer, so the kids and families here in Cookeville, our citizens, and the ones visiting will be able to utilize it as soon as possible.”

Pickleball Courts are also under construction at Cane Creek Park. Wheaton said the pickleball courts are almost completed.

“We’ve got most of the pad poured, we’ve got the seating, we’ve got some pavilion areas for that,” Wheaton said. “I would advise anyone to drive over there and see it. It’s gonna be a really nice facility that’s gonna be able to be utilized both day and night because we are gonna have lights there as well.”
