Jackson’s Williams Looking to See Outside Shooting Improve

Jackson County basketball player Claire Williams has found a new facet of her game.

Williams said initially she was not comfortable shooting three pointers. Williams said she was encouraged by Head Coach Jim Brown to try. Williams said her height in middle school is what caused her to gravitate towards shooting inside the line.

“I used to never shoot threes. I kind of refused to do it,” Williams said. “And then [Coach Brown] would just push me to shoot threes, kind of yell at me, but I needed to be yelled at, and I feel like that’s what I do good now.”

Williams enters her senior year at Jackson County. She is one of the four seniors on the Jackson County squad. Williams said this summer has helped improve the team chemistry.

“We kind of like learn how to play with each other during those games,” Williams said. “We’re not usually as structured as we are during the season, during the summer. We kind of just go out and play, so we kind of get the feel of the game.”

Williams said this summer has given her team new opportunities to grow.

“It’s good to get experience and play against different people,” Williams said. “They’re really competitive and we kind of learn how to play with each other during those games.”

Jackson County has competed against Upper Cumberland teams this summer. They have also competed with public and private schools in tournaments and scrimmages. Their camps ended in June with their participation in the BCAT Showcase in Lebanon.
