Baxter ready to move forward on the Wolf Creek Waterline Project after awarding an estimated $647,000 bid.
The project will install an estimated 2,325 feet of new waterline along State Route 141 between Helm Hollow Road and Edgar Evins State Park. Baxter Public Works Director John Ramsey said the project necessary as the Wolf Creek Area has historically had waterline issues.
“Since I’ve been here, and talking to some of the older hands that have been here, and it’s had its fair share of problems with leaks and you know, just being a high-pressure area, old lines, things just wear out,” Ramsey said.
Ramsey said the new waterline will consist of a heavier type of pipe, which should better withstand the pressure in that area. Ramsey said the project start date has yet to be determined.
“G. Meeks construction, we had went ahead and talked with them, they did the bid opening, and of course, you know we had to wait to look through everything and make sure everything met standards, and everything,” Ramsey said. “And I know they said they had some jobs going, so I’m not sure when that job will kick off, but we will be in contact with them here in a few days.”
Baxter will be using ARP funds to pay for the project. Ramsey said the bid came within the city’s budget.
“On a job like this, you kind of wonder how will a project come in,” Ramsey said. “Will it meet the budget? Or is it gonna be over? You know, just to see it come in within budget makes it happy for me.”
Ramsey said the project will not replace all of the waterlines in the Wolf Creek Area. Ramsey said there are still some other portions that need to be addressed.
