Warren County Pioneer football head coach Eric Belew said he has enjoyed his brief time in the Upper Cumberland.
Belew took over as head coach in the spring. Belew said he is excited the most about the players he has seen practice so far.
“I’ve got a great senior group that’s small in number but when it comes to their character and their work ethic,” Belew said. “The success that we’re going to pursue and have over the next few years is certainly going to be because of the foundation that they’ve laid.”
Of the dozen starting seniors Warren County possesses, seven will be manning offensive skill positions next season, including quarterback and offensive line. Belew said the biggest change is not in the personnel, but rather in the verbiage the team will use.
“When it comes to scheme and stuff like that, we’re more focused on the foundational and fundamental aspects of the game,” Belew said. “We want to improve in those areas and then the scheme and the depth of that scheme will improve later on.”
Belew said the Warren County administration has helped ease him into the position.
“They’ve all been super supportive,” Belew said. “It’s really just been, hey what do you need, which is really hard to find, so I’m really excited and grateful about the opportunity they’ve given us.”
Belew will also be coaching physical education next season. Belew said he will see most of the football players in that class. Belew’s wife, Hannah, will coach the Warren County tennis team going forward.
Belew’s first game as Warren County head coach will take place August 22 at home against DeKalb.
