Monterey will begin work soon to address drainage issues within Stamps Hollow Creek.
The project will entail cleanout and reshaping of the creek and drainage channel between Industrial Drive and East Railroad Avenue. The project will also feature a bio-rentention stormwater basin area adjacent to Whitaker Park. Consulting Engineer Jerry Warren said the project has been two to three years in the making.
“Now we just gotta get the rest of it done,” Warren said. “So this is a good step, and it’s a positive step getting the bids approved. We have to send it to the state to get their approvals, then get the paperwork done. So our work continues, but it’s a good start.”
Warren said the $444,450 bid ARP project is currently within budget. However, Warren said the bid only covers portions of the project as the town has only been granted a few easements from residents.
“There are some sections of this project that right now we don’t have access to, just for some easements that we are working through,” Warren said. “If we are successful in getting more of the easements, then we have a little more budget to work with.”
Warren said not being granted access would impact the project.
“It will reduce the areas that we can work, so the more access that we get, the more areas that we can work,” Warren said. “We are still in conversations with some of the remaining property owners, so that’s an ongoing phase as well.”
The project is being paid for by an ARP grant that requires Monterey to provide a five percent match. Warren said the town would only be responsible for paying five percent of the amount used for the project. An official date to begin the construction has not been provided.
