A familiar face will be joining the Algood Board of Zoning Appeals as Patt Judd appointed by Algood City Council Tuesday night.
Judd said she wanted to return to the local government because of Algood’s growth and the limited space available.
“One of the things that concerns me is what’s going to happen to our commercial property,” Judd said. “And are we going to have enough property to be building more houses, and building more apartments.”
Judd will replace Troy Hogan, who resigned his position on the Board earlier this year. The Algood City Council members voted unanimously to approve her appointment. Judd’s term will expire in October, but she hopes to be reappointed.
Judd said she thought someone needed to fill the spot on the board following Hogan’s resignation in the event the board meets. She said she is unsure if the board will have any items on their agenda when they meet again, or if they will even meet before reappointments in a few weeks.
City Administrator Keith Morrison said the appointment was made in case the board needs to conduct business.
“If something happens and someone is sick and not able to attend, and then you get down to two or three,” Morrison said. “You have to have three to have a meeting, so we don’t want to get to a meeting and someone need business addressed and not be able to do that.”
Morrison said Judd’s community service background was part of what made her stand out among other applicants, as she serves on the planning commission and is familiar with Algood. Judd said her background in government and real estate will translate well to her new role.
“A lot of people don’t realize what real estate agents do,” Judd said. “We have to make sure of the zoning and all of that before they can put commercial property in, before they can build a subdivision, what the setbacks are, all of that stuff. So you learn.”
In other business, the Algood City Council agreed to a $12,000 contract with Marks Pops for the 2026 fireworks show. Half of the money is to be paid upfront, and the other half will be paid the day of the show.
