A section of Crossville’s downtown sidewalk project will need to be fixed because of poor drainage.
Crossville City Council discussed the $160,000 item during its Tuesday work session. With the sidewalks nearing completion, downtown paving will be the next step. City Engineer Tim Begley said as far as he is aware, Main Street is on T-DOT’s Spring paving list.
“Valerie and I haven’t had a lot of discussion with them early in the year, and T-DOT has been holding this pavement project for the last 12 years, and they took it out of last year’s fiscal budget,” Begley said. “But it is in this current fiscal year.”
Begley said he is confident that the sidewalk project will be completed by next spring.
As for the sidewalk change, Begley said the cross slope is too steep and does not meet ADA standards.
“Some of it has the wrong cross slope on it,” Begley said. “There’s a section or two of curb and gutter that is not draining properly. And it’s not our money, but that’s coming back up out of the ground.”
City Manager Valerie Hale said the sidewalk project change order is an estimated $160,000 and is to extend the inspection services, as an extension has already been granted for the construction of the project. The Crossville City Council will consider approving the Downtown Sidewalk Project change order next Tuesday.
Begley said T-DOT would be milling all of Main Street. Begley said T-DOT would actually be paving more than what the city wanted.
“They’ve told me that they will go back on the city streets as far as the new curb and gutter, because that new curb and gutter, even though it’s on city streets, its been paid for by T-DOT,” Begley said.
In other business, the council held a special-called meeting before the work session to approve a change order for the Transportation Alternatives Project. The change order extends the contract by 24 days. The extension is due to the contractor waiting to hear back from its signpost supplier.
All council members voted to approve the change order.
