Cumberland County High Gets New Traffic Pattern Friday

Changes coming to the traffic pattern at Cumberland County High School when school begins Friday.

Principal Dr. Cassie Warner said parents will drop their kids off in front of the school on the Stanley Street side. Car riders will be picked up in the same location. Warner said busses will line up parallel to Miller Avenue.

“We had to change [the traffic pattern] a couple of years ago due to construction of our brand new auditorium,” Warner said. “And now that the auditorium is open and up and running, we are actually just going back to the old traffic pattern. So some people may not even realize that it changed.”

Warner said she believes that the changes will be familiar, since that is the way traffic has previously flowed at the high school.

Under the new plan, student drivers will park on the gym side of the building. There will be no drop off or pick up allowed on the gym side.

Warner said she did not have a say in the decision to revert to the old traffic pattern.

“It was the transportation director and the City of Crossville Police Department that requested we go back,” Warner said. “So I didn’t have a problem making those adjustments for them.”

Warner said she assumed the switch had something to do with student safety, although she is unsure of the exact reasoning behind the changes. Warner said there have been no issues so far, but she does not know how things will look later in the week.

“Traffic flow has been great, but our students aren’t here yet,” Warner said. “So we’ll find out on Friday how that’s going to work.”

Parents and students will get their first look at the new traffic pattern when the school year begins on Friday morning.
