Warren County football player John Gillespie said every day this summer has been dedicated to improving his game.
Gillespie enters his senior year at Warren County next season. Gillespie comes off a season where he set career highs in catches and receiving yards. Gillespie said he has thought a lot about what next season might bring.
“Everything has been critically thought out and [I want to make it] just to make it as special as possible for everyone who’s graduating this year,” Gillespie said. “And it’s our last season, so we’re going to go out with a bang.”
The Warren County Pioneers football team will look for their first win since August 18th, 2023. That win came against DeKalb County, whom the Pioneers will face opening night. Gillespie said new Head Coach Eric Belew has kept the team in check so far.
“[He’s a] great guy,” Gillespie said. “He can be hard sometimes but it’s all out of love and he keeps everything organized and keeps us all going, getting stuff done, no long breaks, no, being as efficient as we can in practice and getting everything done in a short amount of time.”
Gillespie said he wants to prove some people wrong this season.
“Just cause the past has been a little bit rough doesn’t mean anything going into the future,” Gillespie said. “I encourage everybody to try to be a part of the program and just get this program back on its feet as soon as possible.”
Gillespie will line up at receiver and safety for the Pioneers this season.
