Cookeville Regional Medical Center has experienced a network security incident where an unauthorized party gained access to its network.
Marketing and Communications Director Hannah Davis said the incident originated outside of the United States. The time the incident took place is unknown. Davis said the incident has impacted CRMC.
“The internet is currently down to ensure the highest level of safety for our medical center,” Davis said. “At this time, patient care obviously, remains the number one priority for us, so Cookeville Regional is still fully open and accepting patients.”
Davis expressed that people should not hesitate to visit CRMC if care is needed. Davis said CRMC’s Information System Security team is continuing to investigate the incident and will provide updates to the public as details unfold.
Davis said CRMC can continue operating amid the investigation due to internal processes.
“The good thing about this is we’ve done drills on this for years,” Davis said. “So we have internal processes that go into place when the internet goes down and those have been put into place.”
