Tech Putting Putnam First With Early Admissions Opportunity

Putnam County Students can submit applications to Tennessee Tech beginning Tuesday as part of Tennessee Tech’s Putnam First initiative.

This year’s application period opens August 1, giving Putnam County students a two-week head start. Tech’s Campus Visits Coordinator Peyton Land said the goal of Putnam First is to deepen the connection with local students.

“We care a ton about these local students,” Land said. “We’re recruiting across the state, across the country anymore, but at the end of the day, Putnam County is our home, and the students here are are a big part of that. And we have some wonderful students here in Putnam County and we want to show them and give them a great education here at Tennessee Tech.”

Land said Putnam First applicants will will have their application fee waived. Land said early application means accepted students can also get a head start on scholarship and housing applications.

Land said completing the application early can also give students the peace of mind they need to truly enjoy their senior year of high school.

“There’s a lot that happens during that senior year, so being able to go ahead and get those applications out of the way is a big advantage that we’re giving you,” Land said

Land said recruiting Putnam County students has gotten easier over the years. He said there are several great universities across Tennessee, but more students are becoming aware of what Tech has to offer.

“With the return on investment you get here at Tennessee Tech, the type of education you get here, I think it’s hard to beat,” Land said. “And with us being so close and offering so many opportunities for these local students to get on to campus, I think we have some great options that they’re seeing more and more these days.”

Land said local students may not understand all that Tennessee Tech provides to students.

“We have one of the best average starting salaries for our graduates right now, and we have several options to help you get out,” Land said. “People are hiring Tech grads at a high rate these days, so you can come here, stay close to home, and make those deeper connections to the town that you already live in.”

This is the sixth consecutive year of Tech’s Putnam First initiative.
