For the second consecutive year, a Tennessee House Joint Resolution has made July a statewide month of prayer with services set Tuesday.
The idea for a month of prayer was initially proposed in a 2024 joint resolution. Putnam County Coordinator Marcia Mullins said this year, a similar resolution was brought forward by Representative Monty Fritts and Senator Mark Pody.
“Every year, July will be a month of prayer, fasting and repentance, statewide, for our state” Mullins said. “Each county is assigned a time and date to have a county service, to pray over their service.”
On Tuesday, the Pickett County service begins at 8am. followed by the Clay County service at 11am. Jackson County’s service is at 2pm, and Putnam County will go at 4:30 pm. The services will be held at each county government building.
Mullins said in addition to prayer time, Putnam County’s service will include a reading of the resolution and comments from guest speakers. Mullins said the service will end with small group prayer time for those who want to participate.
“We’ll pray over our county, our state, and this has actually gone nationwide,” Mullins said. “The state of Louisiana has also adopted a resolution for their state as well.”
Mullins said the movement spread across continents last year, as Representative Fritts had emails from Australia saying that they were praying for Tennessee.
Mullins said this year’s focus scriptures come from 2 Chronicles 7:14 and Psalm 51
“That’s what we’re praying for, mercy and grace to come upon Tennessee,” Mullins said. “To acknowledge the hand of God in this state and across our nation.”
Mullins said the basis of the movement is repentance, prayer, and seeking God.
