Algood Council Approves New Septic Cleaning Equipment

Algood will purchase a hydro-excavator to help with sewer line cleaning and valve maintenance.

Public Works Director Walt Bradshaw said the machine cleans sewer lines by pumping water through sewer lines to break up debris. When the debris is broken up, the machine vacuums it back into the tank for disposal.

“Here lately, we’ve been needing one for awhile,” Bradshaw said. “Because whenever we do need it, we’ve been having to call on other people to come, pay other people to help us out. And for the deal we’re getting on this, it’s just something that would be hard to pass up on for the money.”

City Administrator Keith Morrison said the Jet-Vac will cost some $50,000, which was previously budgeted.

“This is a trailer mounted unit,” Morrsion said. “It has a 350 gallon spoils tank with a 100 gallon water tank.”

The new Jet-Vac will help improve efficiency with sewer line cleaning. In the past, the city had to clean valves by hand. Bradshaw said doing so was very time consuming.

The council unanimously approved purchasing the Jet-Vac Ring-O-Matic 350 V.
