Celina Aldermen will hold off on the town’s repaving discussion pending work on sewers.
The town recently acquired a $2 million loan to repave every street within the city limits. Alderman Michael Boles said he was in favor of waiting to start the project.
“I think we need to wait until we fix the sewers and that stuff first,” Boles said. “The streets cause if we pave and just cut up, then we are just gonna have the same mess we got now. That’s my thought, that if we are gonna do it, get the infrastructure done first and then come back and cover it, so it looks nice, feels nice for a long time.”
The town is currently bidding out two water projects to replace waterlines in the Cedar Hill area and the Free Hill area.
Mayor Luke Collins said some of the streets already had to be cut up due to sewer and water line work. The city must pass a resolution for the repaving project before the expires on March 28, 2026.
“Once this loan expires, Rural Development will loan us the money again,” Collins said. “We just have to go through that process. It’s a lengthy process, but that’s not to say you know, if we don’t take the loan, that doesn’t mean that we can never get a loan from them again. So if you all want to wait, then we will wait.”
