Crossville To Consider Bids For Miller Ave, First St Projects

Crossville City Council will consider awarding bids for three American Rescue Plan projects Tuesday.

That includes a water booster station and a waterline extension project on Miller Avenue. City Engineer Tim Begley said the Miller Avenue projects will interconnect the city of Crossville with the Cumberland Plateau Water Authority.

“The waterline is a 12-inch waterline that’s about 15,000 feet of waterline with a booster station right in the center,” Begley said. “And it’s set up to provide Cumberland Water Authority with a million gallons of water a day.”

The bids for the booster station were an estimated $2.3 million, while the waterline extension bid is an estimated $4 million. Begley said both projects came in under budget.

“We are going through a season now with these projects, that being after covid, that when we produce an estimate, it’s scary to see the outcome of how the projects actually bid,” Begley said. “Sometimes they are right on line. Sometimes they are astronomically higher, and I was very pleased to see this one come in lower.”

The third project bid the city council will consider is an estimated $735,000 bid for a sewer enhancement capacity project on 1st Street Near Peavine Road.

“We currently have a four-inch line on 1st Street, a low-pressure sewer line that brings the sewer back into the city, and it’s almost at capacity,” Begley said. “And we are going to install a six-inch line right beside that four-inch, which is going to be dedicated for the north side of the interstate.”

Begley said that for the Miller Avenue Projects, the Cumberland Plateau Water Authority is helping the city put up the five percent match that is required with the ARPA grant. Begley said since the city is using the ARPA grant for the projects, the projects must be completed by September of 2026.

The city council will meet Tuesday at 6pm.
