Jackson Commissioners Not Ready To Consider Budget

Jackson County Commission Chair Joey Denson said the budget committee should have Jackson County’s budget complete in the next several weeks.

Denson told County Commissioners Monday night the budget committee is still working through the numbers. Denson said the budget will likely be passed in mid-August.

Denson said in years past, the Commissioners have come in and finished the budget. Denson said a several sessions with the budget committee or commissioners may be necessary in the coming weeks.

In other business, the Commission approved the county longevity pay policy. The city has been offering longevity pay since 2021, but there was no formal written policy. An amendment will be made at a future meeting clarifying who is eligible for longevity pay.

The Commission approved several budget amendments to close out the fiscal year. Amendments were made to for the general fund, highway department, school system, and solid waste.

Interim County Executive Jim Morgan gave a review of the Audit Committee’s findings. The findings included unclaimed unclaimed property, most of which were checks not cashed for election work and jury duty. Morgan said the county deeds office is working on reconciling the associated account.

The next meeting is scheduled for July 8.
