A disruption after the conclusion of the Putnam County Commissioners meeting on Monday night has led to an arrest.
According to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department, a group of attendees, including individuals from the Putnam County Democratic Party, Putnam County Young Democrats, and the Indivisible Upper Cumberland Group, were present and generally peaceful. However, some individuals engaged in disruptive behavior.
An individual identified as Trenton Tyler Strode attempted to move past deputies aggressively towards county commissioners and made physical contact with deputies. When deputies attempted to detain Strode, he resisted arrest. During the incident, other attendees voiced concerns, but deputies on site worked swiftly to restore order and ensure the safety of all present.
Strode was arrested at the scene and has been charged with assault against a first responder, disrupting a public meeting, and resisting arrest. The sheriff’s office said additional arrests may follow as the investigation continues.
“As Sheriff, it is my responsibility to ensure that public meetings remain safe and orderly,” Sheriff Eddie Farris said. “Citizens have every right to attend and participate in government meetings; however, any
physical confrontation or interference with law enforcement duties will be addressed in accordance with
the law.”
