The Sparta Board of Mayor and Aldermen ratified the city budget on final reading.
City Administrator Tonya Tindle said the Board Of Equalization met over the last couple of weeks to confirm the state certified property tax rate. The comptroller’s office confirmed the rate is now set at $0.59, a slight increase from the original projection of $0.58.
“[The rate] in turn, does not constitute a tax increase for us,” Tindle said. “Or lower. It will generate the same amount of tax revenue for us.”
Tindle said the rate was adjusted because of this year’s property reappraisal.
The budget shows total revenues of $10.854 million. Expenditures total $10.729 million. The General Fund includes some $3.3 million for the new splash pad.
