Nicole Wright Appointed DeKalb Clerk And Master

DeKalb County’s new Clerk and Master is Nicole Wright.

Wright was appointed as clerk and master by Chancellor Ronald Thurman. Wright said the clerk and master’s primary responsibility is overseeing the Chancery Court System.

“I’m really honored to receive this appointment from Chancellor Ronald Thurman,” Wright said. “I’m very humbled that he thinks that I can fulfill the duties of this office, especially following a clerk and master who’s been with him for over 20 years.”

Wright will replace Debra Malone, who is retiring Friday. Wright said Malone has been helpful in preparing her for the role over the last few weeks.

“I just look forward to continuing to provide the services to the citizens of DeKalb County, to the Chancellor Ronald Thurman,” Wright said. “He and the outgoing clerk and master have done a tremendous job, and I just look forward to keeping those services open and available.”

Wright has served with both the DeKalb County and Warren County’s circuit courts. More recently, Wright worked with attorney Jeremy Trapp in Smithville. Wright said the biggest change in her new role will be the lack of criminal cases.

“I’ll be dealing with primarily civil, as well as probate proceedings, which I did not have in the circuit clerk’s office,” Wright said. “So that’ll be a new avenue for me that I’m super excited about.”

Wright officially takes over as Clerk and Master on Monday.
