Van Buren County Commissioners passed an estimated $23.3 million budget on final reading Tuesday night.
Commissioner Tabitha Denney said the tax rate will stay the same at $2.40 per $100 of assessed value. The penny value is an estimated $17,463, with projected tax revenue to be an estimated $4.4 million.
The tax breakdown features $1.585 going to the general fund, $0.335 to General Purpose Schools, $0.275 to the ambulance service, $0.105 to debt service, and $0.10 to local purpose.
Expenditures contain an estimated $4.6 million for the general fund, an estimated $11.7 million for the general purpose school fund, an estimated $4 million for Highway and public works, an estimated $990,000 for the ambulance service, and an estimated $383,400 for charitable donations.
Other expenditures consist of an estimated $587,000 for solid waste, an estimated $828,000 for the school child nutrition fund, an estimated $382,000 for the debt service, an estimated $182,000 for local purpose tax, and an estimated $40,000 for courthouse and jail maintenance.
The budget projects an estimated ending fund of $129,694, representing an improvement of an estimated $14,000 from the previous year.
A public hearing was held one hour before the meeting, but no one from the public spoke during the timeframe. The budget is set to take effect on July 1.
