Clarkrange Basketball’s Sophie Sitton wants to continue building her game this summer.
Sitton is one of the four seniors for the Buffaloes entering next season. She has had a chance to play against other teams from Tennessee in camps, practices, and scrimmages. Sitton said she has seen a lot of positive signs early on.
“[These summer games] have definitely shown us we can hang with the best of them,” Sitton said. “It gave us the confidence to know that we can go all the way this year so, just got to get in shape.”
Sitton plays shooting guard for the Lady Buffaloes. Sitton handles point guard duties if Lydia Phillips is not available. Sitton said while her team does not have much height this year, she sees that as an advantage.
“We’re faster than a lot of teams so we can press them a lot better and put the pressure on them that they’re not used to,” Sitton said.
Sitton said she likes to let the shots fly whenever she can.
“I’m not the tallest, so I can’t really attack inside as much,” Sitton said. “So if I can’t shoot, I’ve got to be able to knock them down to score.”
Sitton said she expects the team to maintain their conditioning this season. Clarkrange has begun open gym practices this summer against fellow Lady Buffalo alumni. Sitton said those practices have helped improve their chemistry.
Clarkrange finished 22-12 last season. They lost to Van Buren in the Class A sectional game.
