Celina will look to take the next steps in paving the streets after Aldermen approved a resolution to accept a $2 million loan.
Alderman Kenny Westmoreland said the city plans to repave every street within the city limits. Depending on the costs, the city’s loan amount could be less than $2 million.
“Once we put an official notice out that we are taking bids, the loan would ultimately be the amount of what we would accept to be in repaying what the lowest bidder submitted to do the job,” Westmoreland said.
Westmoreland said the next step will be the bidding process. He said he hopes that can be considered at next week’s Aldermen meeting.
“We’ve just have yet to pull it into play, and it will be addressed at our next meeting in July when the three new aldermen, myself and the two new ones, are coming into office,” Westmoreland said. “It will be addressed in July.”
Westmoreland said the state recently repaved Highway 52 through Celina.
“That’s been a major plus, and the bridge is being repaved,” Westmoreland said. “However, we last year, had identified several streets that were in bad need of being paved. We have paved several streets already.”
Westmoreland said he looks forward to moving the project along and getting the paving started.
