A new White County RV campground will celebrate its official ribbon-cutting Monday, giving campers both short and long-term options.
Upper Cumberland RV Park Co-Owner Katie Haynes said the park started out of love for the outdoors. Haynes said the family spent several years considering the idea. Ultimately, Haynes said the family knew they wanted to put a campground in the Upper Cumberland.
“There’s so much to do, between hiking, waterfalls, state parks, the lakes, and much more,” Haynes said. “When we found Sparta though, we knew it was the perfect spot for us. It just had that warm, small town feel where everyone we’ve met is just very kind and community minded.”
Haynes said the campground has both short term and long term spaces available so people have enough time to explore all the Upper Cumberland has to offer.
Haynes said camping in and around White County is very popular, and visitors are surprised about amount of outdoor activities throughout the area.
“White County in particular draws in a steady stream of campers,” Haynes said. “We see a good mix of people who are local who are just looking for a weekend getaway. We also see lots of people travelling from out of state.”
Haynes said the campground has already had some repeat visitors.
Haynes said camping is a great way to unplug and reset while spending quality time with family.
“For me, I think there’s something special about evenings at the campground, having fires where everyone’s grilling and sharing stories,” Haynes said. “It’s a great way to bring people together, and with an RV, you can pick up and go wherever you want.”
The ribbon cutting ceremony takes place Monday at 12:30. The campground is located on Old Kentucky Road in Sparta.
