HRS Optimistic For Additional Funding For Redbud Village

Highlands Residential Services Board of Directors said they are optimistic after learning that additional funding could be acquired for the Redbud Village Project.

Redbud Village is a 20-unit housing development on Buffalo Valley Road that will serve homeless populations. Executive Director Chris Cassetty said the board is currently completing a federal home loan bank grant application. Cassetty said he has learned that there is a big emphasis on energy-efficient buildings during the application process.

“We’re probably gonna end up getting what’s called a fortified roof,” Cassetty said. “And there’s a gold certification, and what that will get us is more points towards a federal home loan bank grant, which will get us more money to make sure we’ve got adequate money to cover the cost.”

Cassetty said the grant process may slow construction up by a week or two. Cassetty said the contractor has already begun working on the site.

“You can see that they have started moving a lot of dirt,” Cassetty said. “They are getting really close to having the dirt pads ready to start pouring footers and start coming out of the ground.”

Cassetty jokingly told the board that the project has already seen some delays.

“Truthfully, the weather has obviously held them up a little bit moving dirt,” Cassetty said. “You know, and I hope it rains soon cause it hadn’t rained in at least two or three hours.”

Cassetty said the contractor believes the project could be finished within a year. Cassetty said that usually when a contractor says they can complete a project in a year, it usually gets completed in less than a year.
