Tech Names Montana State’s Fox New Athletic Director

The Tennessee Tech Board of Trustees Executive Committee unanimously approved the hire of Casey Fox as the school’s new Athletic Director.

The vote came during a specially-called Thursday morning meeting. Tech President Phil Oldham said Fox will bring a new voice to the campus.

“Has an extensive background, about 25 years of experience, at multiple campuses,” Oldham said. “Done some really wonderful things. He’s going to bring a lot of energy. experience and know-how to Tennessee Tech to help us propel athletics to the next level.”

Fox serves as Deputy Athletic Director at Montana State. He came to the school in June, 2017. He led the department’s revenue and communications efforts.

“I’m going to use that as a blueprint for what we are going to do it here,” Fox said. “I know we can get this thing going in a positive direction.”

Fox said he wants the student athlete to be the basic pillar of the department. Fox said he plans to arrive in a couple of weeks after a family vacation next week.

Fox graduated from Oregon. He has served in athletics at Navy, Utah, and Washington State.

Trustees Board Members expressed excitement about the hire and offered to support Fox in any way possible. Fox replaces Mark Wilson who resigned last month after 20 years at Tennessee Tech.

The Executive Committee also officially approved Zhanjiang “John” Liu as interim provost, replacing Lori Bruce. Liu served two years as interim provost at Syracuse. Liu will continue in his work in research.

Oldham said the search for a replacement will begin this fall. He said the search will likely take a full academic year.
