All Women’s Fishing Tournament Coming To Dale Hollow

Female anglers can hit the water on Dale Hollow Lake this weekend for the 2 Chicks in a Boat Fishing Tournament.

2 Chicks in a Boat Co-founder Lori Povisil said she has been fishing since she was four years old, and got started hosting tournaments to spread the joy of fishing to other women. Povisil said fishing is not just a men’s activity.

“I would say the number one reason that women should get into it is it’s completely relaxing and restful,” Povisil said. “You’ll never have a bad day on the water, truthfully, even if you don’t catch fish.”

Povisil said this will be the first tournament 2 Chicks in a Boat has hosted at Dale Hollow Lake. The decision to make a stop there spawned from demand from a social media survey.

Co-Founder Beth Mills said large mouth bass, small mouth bass, and spotted bass inhabit Dale Hollow Lake. Mills said participants do not need to have a boat to enter the tournament.

“Our goal for everyone is to pair somebody up with a new teammate or someone that has a boat,” Mills said. “We would do everything in our power to help get you as comfortable to whatever level that might be for you.”

Povisil said people fishing on a boat should always partner with someone experienced to ensure safety. Povisil said wearing life jackets and weather appropriate clothing are also essential to a safe fishing trip.

Despite traction online, Povisil said they would like to see more people get involved this weekend.

“It’s hard to find people who have the knowledge to run a boat and to enter the tournament,” Povisil said. “Our numbers so far are very low unless people want to show up at the meeting or at the ramp.”

Povisil said tournament registration is open until it begins Saturday morning. The tournament meeting is Friday evening at 5 at Sunset Marina in Byrdstown.
