Spencer Hires Lipps As New Economic Development Coordinator

The town of Spencer has hired Amanda Lipps as the city’s new Economic Development and Tourism Coordinator.

Spencer created the position a few months ago to further tap into the tourism industry. Lipps said she took the job to try and better the city she loves.

“My vision is really to see Spencer grow while keeping its quiet charm that we have already,” Lipps said. “I would love to attract some small businesses to promote more tourism in our town, promote all of our outdoor assets we have, and even host community events and things like that, that would really draw people to our area.”

Lipps said many people know about Fall Creek Falls but don’t know about the other things that go on in Spencer. Lipps said she hopes her efforts to market Spencer will help the city catch up to the rest of the Upper Cumberland.

“We’ve done pretty well for ourselves, just considering that Fall Creek Falls is in the area as far as tourism dollars, but you know, there hasn’t been anybody in the position before, so it’s really time to you know, promote it, and that’s what I am here for, so we are definitely behind,” Lipps said. “We don’t have a huge tourism presence, but that is something I am looking to change.”

Lipps said she is working to put a website together and form a social media presence to get the word out there about what Spencer has to offer. Lipps said attracting more visitors will improve the local economy.

“It’s gonna contribute to, you know, the city and the county as far as tax dollars,” Lipps said. “So that’s gonna lower that burden on our residents. So we have people that will come and visit and spend money in our community, but then they are not here to stay, they are not here to vote. You know, they are just here to help inject dollars into our area.”
