Tennessee Tech students may be home for the summer, but the campus is still lively thanks to a variety of summer camps.
Tennessee Tech has already hosted a couple of camps this summer, including the American Legion Boys State and freshman orientation SOAR sessions. Jonathan Frank, Tech’s News and Public Relations director, said there are all kinds of camps offered, and there are camps for kids from first grade to high school graduates. Frank said camps are a great chance for students to see what Tech has to offer.
“They get a feel for our great campus,” Frank said. “And I think they really experience a sense of welcome from our faculty and staff who are here, and we get great feedback. We love having, as I said, students of all ages here over the summer.”
Frank said some other popular Tech camps are the Elinor Ross Freedom School, which is a six week literacy and cultural enhancement program for first through eighth graders, and two highly selective Governors School programs.
Frank said camps are not only an opportunity for students to explore campus, but for Tech to recruit and welcome prospective students. Frank said programs continually adapt to better fit students.
“No two years are the same,” Frank said. “These programs are getting enhanced and they’re finding ways to and up the ante every year.”
Tech may still be busy over the summer, but Frank said it is a great time to come and explore campus.
“If you’re a parent of a prospective student or an alum that hasn’t been to campus in awhile, or maybe just a local resident who heard about some of our construction projects and you want to check it out yourself, the summer is the perfect time to pay us a visit,” Frank said.
Tennessee Tech has more camp offerings throughout the summer, including seven more SOAR sessions.
