Van Buren Chamber Holding Community Connect Meeting

The Van Buren-Spencer Chamber of Commerce will conduct its first Community Connect Meeting Thursday night.

Chamber President Mika Davis said the idea was brought up by the American Legion’s Hansel Moore as a way n to better connect local businesses and community members. Davis said the she believes the Chamber can grow from the connection.

“We are eager to learn from one another, get a little insight, insert new strategies, and most importantly, to make a new connection,” Davis said. “And I was like, in our small town, that’d going to be huge for people inside our community, for people outside our community. It’s just a way for businesses to come together and learn a little bit more about each other.”

Davis said the chamber is focused on uniting Spencer and Van Buren County, and everyone is on board and excited to work together. Davis said attendees should bring business cards and a shareable dish to the meeting.

Davis said similar meetings have happened in surrounding communities, but this is the first Community Connect in Van Buren County.

“As a Chamber, we’ve kind of been looking for ways to connect everybody,” Davis said. “That is our biggest goal, is just to have a connection with all of these businesses, neighboring communities, with other Chambers.”

Davis said it is important for the Chamber of Commerce to be active in the community.

“I feel like a lot of businesses kind of get lost,” Davis said. “But not in the sense of not having connections, but just trying to make those connections with other businesses. It’s huge to have a partnership.”

Davis said there will be guest speakers at the meeting to share about their businesses. Davis said she hopes for a great turnout and for more businesses to get involved with Chamber events.

Davis said she hopes to hold events every couple of months, and eventually partner with other local Chambers.
