Trevethan Determined To Play Senior Year for Brother

Monterey Lady Wildcat Haylee Trevethan is preparing for her senior year of girls basketball.

Trevethan saw her older brother unable to play basketball two years ago. Trevethan said it was really hard for her to deal with that. Trevethan said she saw the passion and dedication he had for the game.

“He loved the sport so much and the sport he loved got taken away from him,” Trevethan said. “By me now being a senior knowing like I probably won’t be able to go on and play ball like this is my last year to be able to do what I love.”

Haylee Trevethan is expected to play guard for the Lady Wildcats next season. She plays under head coach Randall Phillips, whom has coached her since her fifth grade year. Trevethan said she has known a lot more about basketball during her time under Coach Phillips.

“He really taught me basically everything I know,” Trevethan said. “He teaches me to have more courage in myself and just play how I know to play.”

Trevethan said her family comes to most of her games.

“It’s very important to have family around me when I’m playing to support me and lift me up when I’m not doing as well,” Trevethan said. “It just motivates me to do better.”

Haylee Trevethan will look to get into a program at TCAT. She hopes to study occupational therapy or become a cosmetologist. Trevethan said she hopes basketball can help her work well with others.
