River Begins Construction On $3.4 Million Expansion Project

The River Community Church has begun construction on a $3.4 million expansion project to expand its services offerings.

Executive Pastor TJ Overstreet said the expansion consists of a two-story building with 24,000 square feet of space. Overstreet said the space will be used for educational purposes for kids and teenagers throughout the week.

“There will be several classrooms that will enable us to service and serve more families and kids, and students will also have some dedicated, what we would consider, some worship space,” Overstreet said. “Some independent areas that the teens and the students can gather for worship that are a little bit larger rooms.”

Overstreet said the church wanted to do the expansion project as the church has seen growth along with the rest of the Upper Cumberland. Overstreet said after the church wrestled with the idea of expansion for several years, the church felt like now was the time to make that step.

“We are moving forward with it and we are excited about it because this will also not only help facilitate our current students, and kids, and their families, but also allow for some potential growth that we do believe that the lord will bless us with,” Overstreet said.

Overstreet said the contractor has begun leveling out the pad, has a metal structure on order, and is currently working through relocating utilities. Overstreet said the church is aiming to have the expansion completed by the beginning of 2026.

“We are at the place that we are ready for it, but we also don’t want to get in too big of a hurry,” Overstreet said. “We want to do it right, and we understand that the construction process can take a little time, but again, we are thrilled with what the lord is doing and we are thrilled with how we are gonna proceed with this project.”

Overstreet said he believes the church’s recent growth reflects the church’s mission to love god, love people, and impact the world. Overstreet said creating opportunities for families to gather and worship together is very aligned with that mission as well.
