The Cookeville-Putnam County Chamber of Commerce will host a luncheon Tuesday to discuss how transportation impacts economic development and community growth.
“The Intersection of Transportation and Growth” brings together local leaders with T-DOT Region Two Director Danny Oliver. Chamber Director of Membership Karlyn Reel said attendees will learn the current status of transportation projects and future transportation plans.
“This event will be again, a great opportunity to really hear an update straight from the source on the many different projects that are happening throughout Putnam County and the different parts that each of these entities plays in those projects,” Reel said. “We definitely think that it is important for folks to know that certain projects are assigned to different entities.”
Reel said transportation and infrastructure are critical parts to seeing economic growth. Reel said that due to recent growth, people have asked about traffic and road projects on Willow Avenue, I-40, and Jefferson Avenue.
“Those are some of the big projects that we hear about pretty often here at the chamber and really throughout our community as a whole, and so we thought it’s our responsibility as the chamber to maybe bring these thought leaders together to give an update,” Reel said.
Reel said community members can submit questions at the Chamber website for local leaders and T-DOT representatives.
“Folks are invited to really ask questions about or pertaining to maybe projects that they are experiencing every day, or even things that they have maybe heard as far as projects,” Reel said. “Of course, we will be vetting questions, you know, so it won’t just be a complete free-for-all, but folks are definitely encouraged and invited to submit those questions that are most important to them and their families.”
The luncheon will take place on Tuesday at the Leslie Town Centre from 11am-1pm.
