Free Fishing Day Set For Tennessee State Parks Saturday

You will not need a fishing license to cast your line in Tennessee’s state parks Saturday.

Edgar Evins State Park Manager Brad Halfacre said Free Fishing Day is the only day of the year anyone can fish without a license. Halfacre said fishing is more than just a fun activity.

“Give a man a fish, he’ll eat for a day,” Halfacre said. “You teach him how to fish he’ll eat forever. It is a great skill. And it’s very soothing and very fun. Great pastime, Like I said, with family. Some of my fondest memories is fishing, and now I get to take my children fishing and it’s so much fun.”

Halfacre said fishermen should pack a cooler with drinks and snacks, wear sunscreen, and keep an eye on the weather. Halfacre said there’s several good fishing lakes around the area, like Center Hill, Cordell Hull, and Dale Hollow.

Halfacre said there over fishing should not be an issue due to the selection of lakes and rivers in the area.

“There’s plenty of land fishing, you know, fishing from the bank areas,” Halfacre said. “There’s also some events going on. Usually, Cane Creek Park has a big event that day.”

Halfacre said fishing can create great family memories while exposing kids to the environment.

“Just make a whole day of it,” Halfacre said. “Get out and get your feet in the water or feet in the grass and just enjoy trying to catch some fish.”

Although a fishing license is not required on Free Fishing Day, fishermen over the age of 12 need one any other day of the year.
