A new pro shop coming to Cookeville’s Belle Acres Golf Course, after the The Bar on the Green restaurant torn down.
Belle Acres owner Martha Davidson said the golf course has been in the family for over 95 years. Davidson said her uncle ran the bar until he died, and it has since been leased to other tenants. Davidson said the building was no longer structurally sound, and it was just the right time to get out of the food industry.
“Our family’s desire is just preserve the green space here in Cookeville as long as we possibly can,” Davidson said. “And for a lot of the community to enjoy the golf course and our beautiful green space that we have.”
Davidson said the new 1,900 square foot pro shop will have some golf simulators, meaning people can play indoors year round. Davidson said the pro shop will feature a patio seating area overlooking the golf course.
Davidson said going forward, Belle Acres will focus on being a great golf course. Davidson said there are more projects in the works to achieve that goal.
“Eventually, we’d like to re-open our driving range and have it lit at night so we can allow people to come in at late hours and hit golf balls in the evening. We’re just expanding our golf program.”
Davidson said the facilities will remain open while the new building is under construction.
“We apologize that it will inconvenience people a little,” Davidson said. “You might have to park four spaces down from where you’d rather park, but it will be open and we will have parking.”
Davidson said there will be air conditioned, portable restrooms with running water on the property while construction is underway.
Davidson said she hopes the new pro shop will be complete within the calendar year.
