Monterey Promotes Officers To Stabilize Police Department

Monterey Police promoting three officers to leadership roles in the Police Department.

Sergeant Andrew Neff promoted to Lieutenant, while Officer Blake Bennett and Officer Larry Bates promoted to Sergeant. Monterey Police Chief John Mackie said the promotions will help stabilize the police department.

“The department has not had structure since the current administration, so I want to bring it back where the guys have somebody to call other than me when they need something,” Mackie said.

Mackie said the promotions for the three officers were well deserved.

“There’s 43 years combined with these three guys, so they’ve got the knowledge of doing the job that the other ones may have questions,” Mackie said.

Mackie said he picked Neff to be his lieutenant as Neff has a master’s degree in Criminal Justice. Mackie said the police department is still looking to hire more officers.

Monterey Aldermen approved the promotions Monday night.
