Hayes Wants To Bring Young Approach To Celina Alderman

EDITORS NOTE: This is part of a series of stories introducing the candidates for Alderman in Celina. Residents will vote Tuesday.

Christopher Hayes is running for public office for the first time. Hayes and his family moved to Celina when he was three years old. Hayes, who is 29 years old, said folks should vote for him to get that younger view.

“To have just that common sense back in our politics here in Clay County and inside the city of Celina,”Hayes said. “And just be able to have someone that says, hey, maybe we should bring someone else in this, try to get out of that good ole boy system versus we can find someone in the city to do it — when we might have to bring in a specialist.”

Hayes said he thinks the two biggest issues facing Celina is the government’s ability to collaborate with the county and updating infrastructure.

“Without the city and county working together, you’re never really going to be able to accomplish anything completely,” Hayes said. “The second most is just cleaning up the community, cleaning up the city, fixing the roads, repairing stuff that should have been repaired years and years ago that have never been repaired and getting that in the direction the right way.”

Hayes said he sees the role of alderman is to be the voice of the people.

“An alderman should be going out, should be talking to people, should be available at all times to listen to the complaints, to the needs, to the wants of the citizens of the city,” Hayes said. “And try to bring them to the mayor an say, hey, this is what we’re seeing, what, they’re wanting this, can we find time to bring this to our city?”

Before becoming a critical care paramedic for the Clay County EMS, Hayes served six years in the Air Force.
