Fall Creek Falls Boil Water Advisory Lifted After Leaks

The Fall Creek Falls Utility District has lifted the boil water advisory for Falls Creek State Park, meaning it is now safe to drink and cook with water.

A boil water advisory is placed when water lines are potentially contaminated. Fall Creek Falls Utility District Commissioner Virginia Lewis said last week’s leaks caused low pressure. That makes it easier for contaminants to enter the water lines.

“We then went around to all of the areas and flushed all of the lines out,” Lewis said. “We took water samples after flushing the lines out, had to send them to the lab, make sure they were okay, no contaminants.”

Lewis said the all of the contaminant tests came back negative, which led the utility district to lift the advisory. Lewis some 200 miles of water lines were tested before the advisory was lifted, and it was a lengthy process.

A statement from the Fall Creek Falls Utility District said contaminants never entered or remained in the water lines.

Lewis said water tests are conducted frequently.

“We draw samples from various places daily, Monday through Friday during normal working hours,” Lewis said. “We’re continuously testing the water throughout the month.”

Lewis said the utility district tried to help the park get clean water while the advisory was in effect.

“We did provide some cases of drinking water so I’m not sure if the park picked up any cases of drinking water or not, or if they bought it, or exactly what the park did,” Lewis said. “If they did use our water, they had to boil it if they used it to serve the guests or to cook and prepare food.”

Lewis said the entire system is back up and running with no issues.
