Homestead Tower Association Cancels 2025 Apple Festival

The Cumberland Homestead Tower Association will not host its annual Apple Festival this year.

Homestead Tower Association President Brenda King said the Apple Festival was created as a fundraiser 20 years ago to cover the operating costs of the Homestead Tower. King said the association’s board decided not to have the festival as the Tennessee State Parks will soon take over the operation of the Homestead Tower.

“All good things must come to an end, and we are definitely looking forward to the park taking over the reins of the tower and the operation of it, and in the future, we will do what we need to do if they choose to have a festival.”

King said that not having a festival this year was a tough decision. King said she is unsure what the future holds for the festival.

“We could not have had the Apple Festival for 20 years if it had not been for our community and all of the wonderful volunteers to put on a festival of this magnitude,” King said.

King said the Apple Festival got its name as apples were quite popular on the homestead.

“Back when people first started moving to the homestead, everybody had an apple orchard,” King said. “So I think that’s where the name came from. It was just a staple in all of the homestead homes, so they were just gonna call it the Apple Festival.”

The Cumberland Homestead Tower Association’s Apple Festival is not associated with the Apple Festival that will be taking place at the Cumberland County Fairgrounds this September.
