Jackson’s Tinsley To Become Clay Co. High School Principal

Clay County Schools has hired Dr. Gary Tinsley to become the next principal at Clay County High School.

Clay County School Board Chairman Benji Bailey said the position became available after former principal Mike Dickerson accepted a job with a different school system to be closer to home. Tinsley spent a brief time in the Clay County School system before spending the past several years serving as the principal at Jackson County Middle School.

“He interviewed really well as some of the other applicants as well, but with his experience, he does have some knowledge obviously, of our school system as well, and a school system of our size. I’m sure that played a big part of it,” Bailey said.

Bailey said the school system received four applicants for the position. Bailey said he looks forward to continuing the school’s academic success under Dr. Tinsley’s leadership.

“On a number front, we have exhibited some success for our students, so we look to continue those things,” Bailey said. “Always there is room for improvement, room for growth, whether it be academically, or maybe professionally for our teachers, or any way that he can assist the students and the teachers, and effectively administer the goals of the board of education. That’s just what we are looking for someone to be able to take us where we are and continue to lead us.”

Bailey said the school system had four great applicants for the position. Bailey said the hiring process went fairly well.

“I wasn’t a part of it, but as I understand it, the interview process went well, and we had four good interviews, and after that process, we offered the position,” Bailey said.

Bailey said Director of Schools Diana Monroe and several central office personnel handled the hiring process.
