Celina’s Boles Wants To Attract New Industry

EDITORS NOTE: This is part of a series of stories introducing the candidates for Alderman in Celina. Residents will vote Tuesday, June 3.

Candidate Micheal Boles is a lifelong Clay County resident.

Boles is a family nurse practioniter by trade who now serves with the National Guard. Boles said Celina’s population is shrinking, partly due to children and young people leaving town for better job opportunities after graduation.

“And I thought, maybe I might be able to help try to attract new industry,” Boles said. “Attract new things here. I’d like to make a place better so if my children and grandchildren want to work and live here, they can.”

Boles said he is concerned about Celina’s finances, as the city has a low tax base and increasing operation costs.

“I think we rely a lot on grants,” Boles said. “Which is okay as long as the grants are there, but when they dry up, there’s nothing left.”

Boles said he spent over a decade serving on the county court, and he hopes that experience can help the city attract new industry and events. Boles said people should vote for him because he has enough time to focus on his role as an Alderman.

“I’m no better than anybody else running,” Boles said. “I’m not running against anybody. I’m running for something.
