Senior Emmy Bragga finished her tennis career at Cookeville High School last Thursday.
Bragga finished her season in the regional tournament last month. She ended her season as the Team A singles champion. Bragga said Cookeville Tennis Head Coach Brian Rohr has been a big help throughout her tennis career.
“He’s so, like motivating,” Bragga said. “He’s like, if you lose, like okay, like what can you do better? But if you win, it’s like, okay that’s good, but it’s like he expects it and so, he’s just pushing you to be the best you possibly can be, and he expects nothing better except for you to play 110 percent.”
Bragga spent her junior year playing in the number five spot. This past year, Emmy moved to the number one spot. Bragga said she went into every match with a positive mindset.
“I just said it’s okay, like if I lose, if I win, it’s wonderful,” Bragga said. “And like just the opportunity to play number one and my coach to have faith in me was amazing.”
Bragga said she met some of her best friends while playing tennis.
“I never would have thought in a million years that I would have friends that I could go to,” Bragga said. “And I couldn’t ask for anything better. They’re amazing.”
Bragga started playing tennis her sophomore year. She was a dancer prior to her move to tennis. Bragga said she started playing tennis with her grandfather and started picking it back up after heading back to Cookeville.
Emmy Bragga plans to major in marketing at the University of Tennessee. Bragga said she hopes to do something in sports with her marketing degree.
