Upperman Girls Soccer Hoping to Increase Signups

Upperman completed its girls soccer season with a small number of girls on the team.

The Upperman Bees saw 12 girls sign up for their soccer team this previous season. The number was almost cut in half from the previous season. Upperman Head Coach Mixon Moore said the team had a trying year.

“It seemed like things were gonna be fine and then it just seemed like we just lost, four, five players just bam, bam, bam, right off the bat, back to back,” Moore said. “It was like, well if you don’t want to do the things we need to do, then we’re not gonna change our standards cause of that.”

Upperman had a young team last season. Half of their roster were either freshmen or sophomores. Moore said it was tough to figure out who would stick with the sport.

“It was disheartening but I was gonna hold to my standards and take care of my players,” Moore said. “The players that stuck with it were very proud they stuck with it.”

Moore said he has used in-school recruiting to prepare for next season.

“I feel like we’ve almost kind of, almost had to replace an entire team,” Moore said. “We’ve got a remnant of girls that have stuck with it, but it just kind of had to go out there and, you know, just pound the pavement.”

Moore said the upcoming season will be an exciting one. The next season marks his first full one as Upperman girls soccer head coach. Moore is coaching his fifth different high school.

Upperman concluded their girls soccer season 1-11-1.
