Cookeville Girls Tennis Team Sets Sights on Momentum

Cookeville Girls Tennis Brian Rohr said the team has big shoes to fill.

Rohr saw the Lady Cavaliers move up everyone four spots in the lineup this season. Rohr has been girls tennis coach since 2003. Rohr said the teams saw the change as an opportunity to defeat Cookeville.

“The girls just took it upon themselves to improve every day,” Rohr said. “Their attitudes are great. The results weren’t awesome in the beginning, but they played every day the same.”

Rohr did not coach his first seven years at Cookeville. He coached tennis and basketball for seven years before committing exclsuively to tennis. Rohr said dealing with the personalities is simialr for both sports.

“The movements in basketball and tennis are very complimentary,” Rohr said. “So a lot of the footwork is the same, and that’s an easy transition and helps people in both sports.”

Rohr said he taught a lot of lessons early on.

“I feel like by then, a lot of people were making the mistake of doubting them,” Rohr said. “To reach the final eight in state is a special accomplishment.”

Emmy Bragga is the lone senior that will graduate this week.
