The Van Buren County School Board has approved upgrading the Van Buren County High School sound system.
Several board members complained that the current sound system was in poor condition and often had issues for events like graduation. Career and Technical Education Director Jamie Lowery said the sound system will come with six new speakers, a new console, wireless microphones, and cameras.
“We are gonna use this as a spin-off for our school-based enterprise for our audio and visual students, so hopefully they will be selling DVDs, or flash drives of recordings of all the things that go on with graduation,” Lowery said.
Lowery said the sound system will also come with a new iPad to control the sound system remotely. Director of Schools Katina Simmons said a new iPad will be beneficial as the school system experienced technical difficulties during this year’s graduation.
“We had a lot of issues during high school graduation with our iPad,” Simmons said. “It had to be run manually in the back because we were having issues, but it went well. We did have some issues in the beginning that made everyone a little nervous, but it went well.”
Lowery said the school system was able to cover the cost of the new sound system using the Perkins Grant from the Tennessee Department of Education.
