The Van Buren County Commission tabled a decision to surplus a type three ambulance.
Commissioner Tabitha Denney said she has been thinking about what the county could use the ambulance for instead of surplusing the vehicle. Denney said the ambulance could be used in the county as an emergency and management rehab command center.
“We have needed a command center before, and it was 20 degrees outside, and we had nowhere, command had nowhere warm to sit and for search parties to go out and, you know, communicate,” Denney said.
The commission will have a decision to make soon, as Chairman Cale Crain said the insurance for the ambulance renews on July 1.
Commissioner Terry Hickey said he would like to see how much money the ambulance could bring before making a decision not to surplus the vehicle.
“We got this motion that we have made, and let’s go ahead with this,” Hickey said. “We have the right to accept or reject any bids. Let’s see if we can get any bids on it, and then we’ll, you know what I’m saying, since we have gone this far.”
Several commissioners were unsure if the county could post the ambulance on Gov Deals and then take it off should they decide not to sell it.
After the discussion, the commission unanimously approved to table the decision to surplus the ambulance.
