The Upperman Bees baseball team will begin their quest at a third state title Tuesday night.
Upperman defeated Red Bank in two out of three games to clinch a spot in Murfreesboro. It marks Upperman’s third appearance in the state tournament over the last four seasons. Upperman Baseball Head Coach Wes Shanks said his team has played confident all season long.
“I’m proud of the way the guys have responded or at least, you know, bode their backs when teams are getting their best shot,” Shanks said. “Because I promise you tomorrow, we’re going to get the same type of a ball game.”
The Bees will begin their quest for a second state title in four years Tuesday night against Chester County. Shanks said getting quality at-bats is what he preaches to the team.
“That’s baseball sometimes,” Shanks said. “The more we see the pitcher, the more we’re gonna see the baseball, the better and more aggressive contact we’re gonna have towards them.”
Shanks said he expects his team to come out focused the next few days.
“We know what we need to do to be successful in game,” Shanks said. “Our seniors and upperclassmen have really, you know, taken on that challenge and done well with it.”
Upperman’s appearance in state marks their 11th all-time. They will look for their sixth trip to the state championship game and fourth state title.
Chester County enters play 18-10.
