Leadership Putnam Registration Now Open

Registration for Putnam County’s community-based Leadership Putnam now open for the new year.

Leadership Putnam Director Angie Wells said Leadership Putnam is designed to connect, educate, and inspire individuals who want to make a difference in Putnam County. Wells said the program is intended for local leaders who want to be more involved within their community.

“It’s a unique opportunity for citizens to experience different aspects of what goes on in our community,” Wells said. “So they are gonna get a deep dive of what the county is all about.”

The program meets nine times on a once-a-month basis throughout the year, beginning in August. Wells said participants will meet business leaders and will give back to their community by participating in group projects.

“A lot of people don’t know this, but CityScape, Cookeville CityScape, that was started by a Leadership Putnam Group as their class project,” Wells said. “The PEP Foundation, the Leadership of Putnam Education Foundation, that was created in 2004. That was created by a Leadership Putnam group.

Wells said Leadership Putnam began in 1990 and currently has an estimated 623 alumni. Wells said throughout the years, the program has proven to be very beneficial to the participants who graduate from the program.

“In my years of running Leadership Putnam, after each class, what really makes me happy is when they say I’ve lived here all my life, and I did not know that,” Wells said.

Wells said she is aiming for the program to have 25-28 students for the upcoming course. Wells said people can register online at the Cookeville-Putnam Chamber of Commerce’s website.

The Leadership Putnam registration deadline is June 20.
